Victor specializes in corporate law, joint ventures, mergers and acquisitions. He is adept at cross cultural deal structuring with well-honed abilities to understand and navigate East-West differences.
Victor is fluent in Mandarin- Chinese, as well as Japanese. He was born and raised in China and later lived and studied in Japan before relocating to Canada.
Prior to beginning his legal career, Victor was a successful entrepreneur who co-founded an information technology consulting firm, a software development company, and a real estate leasing and management business.
Drawing from his years of industry experience, Victor advises a wide variety of Canadian, Chinese and Japanese clients from both sides of the Pacific in business matters as well as intellectual property matters. Victor’s keen senses of business and well-rounded appreciation of the North American and Asian culture help direct clients onto the right path in their business dealings.
Currently, he is the Managing Partner of the DS Avocats's Vancouver Office, and a member of the DS’s Business Law Group. Victor is also a registered trademarks agent and a member of the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada. He was previously at Farris, Vaughan, Wills & Murphy LLP.
Victor has strong ties to and has built a large business network in both China and Japan, and possesses insightful appreciation of the business cultures of both countries.
In his spare time, Victor was a columnist writing for the World Journal, North America’s largest circulating Chinese language newspaper, discussing various legal issues faced by new immigrants in their personal and business lives.
Victor is the President of Canada Sports and Culture Foundation, Vice President of Canada China Sports Foundation; he sits on the board of Canada China Enterprises Association; he is also a member of the Dean’s Advisory Board at Simon Fraser University, Faculty of Communications, Arts, and Technology. Victor is also an advisory board member of Canada China Business Council, and sits on the Scholarship and Burseries Committee at Crofton House School, one of British Columbia’s oldest and most respected independent schools.
Victor completed his Bachelor’s curriculum (Honours) in Computer Science at Queen’s University and attended law school at the University of British Columbia.
